Sonic Frontiers simply launched in November, but it appears that Sega is currently working on the next Sonic the Hedgehog video game. Director Mario Hashimoto exposed as such on Twitter, and offered a fascinating peek at Sega’s prepare for the future. Apparently, the next game in the series will put an emphasis on multiple playable characters, and Sega is looking to broaden and fine-tune the open zones that were presented in Sonic Frontiers. Remarkably, Sonic Team wishes to avoid excessive using classic Sonic areas, such as Green Hill Zone, and Chemical Plant Zone.
The combat in Sonic Frontiers took motivation from the Sonic live-action movies, and it seems Hashimoto wants to continue to add more depth to the battle. The director likewise wasn’t quite happy with the method in which the story was managed in Frontiers, and wishes to improve on that, while also giving gamers greater insights into the characters.
Hashimoto’s desire to include additional playable characters is not all that surprising. The director is a huge fan of the Sonic Experience video games, which put a huge concentrate on Sonic’s supporting cast. While Sonic Frontiers just lets players manage the blue blur, a complimentary DLC upgrade for the game coming this year will include more playable characters. Despite this, Hashimoto desires to focus on making great single-player video games, though multiplayer video games are not totally off the table.
